Remediation Activities at Otuegwe :
Crude oil spill is one of the environmental issues that have caused environmental degradation as well as posed challenges to oil producing companies. For this reason, SPDC has put in more effort and resources in ensuring that when an oil spill occurs, the free phase crude is contained, recovered, and evacuated, the impacted area is cleaned up. This report covers the detailed steps taken on site, in the order of clearing, raking, superficial tilling, mop up of residual free phase oil, bagging of impacted vegetation and waste management at 16” Nun River kolo Creek Pipeline at Otuegwe. The spill occurred on 18th November, 2020 and 25th June, 2021 while JIV was conducted on 22nd November, 2020 and 29th June, 2021 respectively. The spill was caused by third party interference. GIOLEE GLOBAL RESOURCES LIMITED was contracted by SPDC to carry out remediation activities at the above-named site and the whole process was carried out in compliance with regulatory guidelines and SPDC standards and procedure.
